District 130 Marathon

On Thursday, May 8, 2008, beginning at 9:00 AM, School District #130 will have the culminating event to conclude their second year with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Students from Veterans Memorial, Paul Revere Intermediate, Paul Revere Primary, and Whittier Schools have been working for the last 11 weeks to run 26 miles. An enormous amount of time has gone into tracking students and their miles and preparing for this spectacular event.

On Thursday students will complete their efforts by running the final leg of their race through the streets of Blue Island. This will be a sight to see. Over 500 students will be participating in the marathon. The route will encompass 123rd Street, Gregory Ave., 119th Place, and Irving Ave. Neighborhood vendors are coming out to support them as well as “Staley” the mascot from the Chicago Bears who will be cheering on our students as they complete this major accomplishment.

There will be music, food, and loads of fun. Our students have shown that healthy lifestyles and fun go hand in hand!
