Green and Growing
by Candace Carr

Ground Cover

One of the biggest challenges the gardener can face is how to cover the ground in those areas where very little seems to grow. Traditional ground cover consists of low, creeping plants that quickly expand to fill the space allowed. However, any other clumping plants can be used by simply massing them together. Another common belief is that ground covers must be low, but depending on their location, many taller plants can be used to cover the area and prevent weeds from growing. Try cimicifuga or lysmachia.
